Senior Shia cleric highlights Prophet Ibrahim’s legacy in Islamic tradition

Hojjatoleslam Navab emphasized the profound lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) life, highlighting his wisdom and dedication to faith. He described Ibrahim’s (PBUH) role in establishing religious traditions, including Hajj, sacrifice, and community-building.

AhlulBayt News Agency: At the beginning of this session, Hojjatoleslam Navab referenced several verses from the Holy Quran regarding the life and character of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH). He discussed the numerous lessons that all people, especially intellectuals and scholars, can learn from this great prophet. Navab noted that upon reading the Quranic verses about Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his life events, one is amazed by how he maintained such a profound spiritual distance from worldly distractions and demonstrated remarkable wisdom.

In another part of his speech, the head of Iranian pilgrims highlighted that Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) not only established Hajj but also laid the foundations for various religious practices that continue to shape Islamic traditions today.

He described Ibrahim (PBUH) as a leader in righteousness, an active and dynamic figure, and emphasized that the Quran regards him as an entire community by himself due to his efforts in building and nurturing communities.

Hojjatoleslam Navab stressed that the Holy Quran’s accounts of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) clearly reflect his vision for civilization-building and community development.

He further noted that Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) pioneered religious seclusion (I’tikaf) and instituted the tradition of sacrifice. He also defended Prophet Lot (PBUH), reinforcing the importance of standing up for the oppressed—a principle that Ibrahim (PBUH) exemplified.

The representative of the Supreme Leader in Hajj and pilgrimage affairs stated that Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) was a forerunner in various aspects of disavowal. He was also the first to host and welcome guests and the first to migrate solely for the sake of God, setting a precedent for devotion-driven migration.

While listing other contributions of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH), Hojjatoleslam Navab pointed out that he was the first to distribute war spoils, the first to craft sandals, and the prophet for whom God revived the dead.
